Patriot Act diminished

The Senate just voted not to extend expiring parts of the Patriot Act. The Patriot Act itself is not expiring, however, 16 provisions within it are. In laymans terms, they are provisions outlining information sharing, amongst other things. They were made temporary after September 11th, 2001, in order to assure that as much information was being gathered as possible, thwarting future terrorist attacks.
Among the provisions not extended are "roving wiretaps and secret warrants for books, records and other items from businesses, hospitals and organizations such as libraries."
